Life and Weight

I recently had a week where it seemed I was being barraged with attacks on my body image, so I decided to do something about it.

I've done the whole "diet" thing once before. It was a safe, healthy diet through my doctor and I did pretty well while I was on it, but it got expensive and I wasn't really learning how I needed to eat in the REAL world without feeling deprived because I couldn't eat some of the the things I love. I wasn't learning how to eat AFTER the diet. So, I gained a lot of it back, but I at least knew I could do it. Also, the diet worked in a way that it was pretty easy to get away with not exercising.

I later got into yoga and took a class at City College. I learned to listen to my body and what it was telling me about things I'd eat and whatnot, so in all, the experience wasn't totally a bad thing, just a stepping stone to where I'm at now.

I am a sensual person in that I love to experience things with my senses. I love to stop and smell roses when I walk by; I love to sit on bass amps and feel the rhythm of music flow through my body; I love the feel of dough in my hands; I love the encompassing hugs of loved ones; and I love the taste of good food on my tongue! So it's hard for me to give up certain types of foods just for a diet.

So, I decided after talking to some friends who have been or are in the Weight Watcher program, that I would join as well. I'm doing it online and Nathan decided to do it with me too. It's working out really well for me.

And on top of that, I'm also going to start running. It's more walking/jogging at this point, but I found a cool website through a WW message board (www.coolrunning.com)that has a lot of good info for new runners, including a program called "Couch-to-5K" that helps you start from scratch and eventually be able to run 5K in about 9 weeks.

So, yesterday I got some good running shoes and got out the door for a good run. The shoes really make a difference!

I'm excited about getting in shape and finally making the changes I've been wanting and needing to make. It feels good already!
