The Passion of the Christ
There is quite a lot of debate, controversy, and conversations going on about this movie. I have sorta mixed feelings about it. I don't really "want" to see it in one sense, much like someone would not "want" to go visit a concentration camp (as parallel I read on another blog). However, I am compelled to see it, because I know that it will be a grim reminder of what my Savior did for me. This movie can't tell the whole story in 2+ hours, obviously, but my hope is that God will work in me through the experience.
Honestly, I am a bit nervous about seeing it, though, because I have a hard time with violence and the movie is very brutal. I don't tend to be very emotional when it comes to movies or books, but I think this one will affect me a lot.
I guess it'd be more like watching a movie version of your best friend last hours before being brutally killed, compared to a story you know is completely fictional.
That said, I know of some Christians who are choosing not to see the film for various reasons. Obviously, one does not NEED to see the movie to understand the sacrifice Jesus made, nor to understand the impact He had on the world, both physical and spiritual. In fact, I would say that no one can truly grasp the magnitude of the impact He made, nor fully understand the implications of God humbling himself to become a man, living amongs, being tempted like us, then sacrificing his life in a horrible death on a cross, and to be brought back from the dead.
At least I know I can never thank Him enough!
I guess one thing that compels me to see this movie is that the emotional anguish I may have would be a small way for me to understand His sacrifice, to enter into it slightly, dare I say.
And there are my thoughts on the matter.
